Kokusai Electric is reportedly increasing production capacity for equipment dedicated to DRAM manufacturing, with expectations for potential growth in the NAND segment as well.

Context

Kokusai Electric is significantly scaling its production capabilities to meet surging demand for DRAM and NAND manufacturing equipment. Following the opening of its Tonami Manufacturing Center in October 2024, the company is on track to double its manufacturing capacity by the end of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2026, compared to 2021 levels. This expansion is primarily driven by the industry-wide shift toward complex 3D architectures and the high-growth requirements of AI data centers and 5G infrastructure. As a specialist holding approximately 70% market share in batch Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD), Kokusai Electric is a critical supplier for advanced memory production. The company recently raised its order forecast for the second half of FY2026 to over %130 billion, citing increased momentum in the DRAM, logic, and foundry segments. By optimizing its supply chain through the new Toyama-based facility, the firm aims to sustain growth in the semiconductor manufacturing equipment market, which is valued at approximately %13 trillion globally.
