MinebeaMitsumi and Sanken Electric are collaborating on power modules, including joint efforts in back-end processes and product development.
Context
Sanken Electric and Minebea Power Device, a subsidiary of MinebeaMitsumi, have entered a strategic collaboration to co-produce and develop Intelligent Power Modules (IPMs) for the consumer and industrial markets. The partnership focuses on integrating manufacturing assets to strengthen supply chain resilience and optimize production costs for semiconductors used in energy-efficient appliances and industrial machinery. As part of the agreement, a new back-end assembly and testing line will be established within Minebea’s Haramachi Plant in Fukushima Prefecture.
The project targets the start of mass production in fiscal year 2027. By mutually utilizing production facilities and technical expertise, the two companies aim to accelerate product development cycles and mitigate volatility in global demand. This move aligns with Sanken Electric’s ongoing focus on high-efficiency power devices and MinebeaMitsumi’s broader expansion into the semiconductor sector, positioning both entities to better compete against global rivals while sharing the capital expenditure burden.
