Samco starts full-scale sales of ALE equipment for GaN and SiC power devices

Monday, December 22, 2025 at 02:40 AM

Samco has officially launched the full-scale sales of its atomic layer etching (ALE) equipment, specifically designed for manufacturing GaN and SiC power devices.

Context

Samco launched the RIE-400iP-ALE and RIE-800iPC-ALE systems on December 17, 2025, targeting the high-growth GaN (gallium nitride) semiconductor market. These atomic layer etching tools solve a persistent industry challenge by processing devices with nano-level precision and minimal surface damage, significantly reducing leakage currents in power transistors. This innovation is vital for producing the high-efficiency power conversion and RF components required for AI data centers and next-generation automotive applications. While Samco held a 1.7% share of the $1.1 billion global ALE market in 2024, this launch strengthens its competitive position in high-value wide-bandgap materials. The company’s international footprint is expanding, with a major delivery to the University of Adelaide scheduled for December 2025. As the total ALE market is projected to reach $2.5 billion by 2034, Samco is well-positioned to capitalize on the global industry’s transition toward specialized compound semiconductors.
