Morgan Stanley has projected that Samsung Electronics could reach an operating profit of 317 trillion KRW, or approximately 218.5 billion USD, by the year 2027.
Context
Morgan Stanley has issued a massive upgrade for SK Hynix, forecasting its 2027 operating profit to reach 225 trillion Won ($155 billion). This bullish projection follows a historic 2025 where SK Hynix outperformed Samsung in annual profit for the first time. The shift highlights an "AI memory supercycle" where demand for specialized chips is fundamentally restructuring industry profitability.
The growth is driven by dominance in High Bandwidth Memory (HBM), essential for Nvidia’s AI accelerators. With supply shortages expected through 2027, analysts predict DRAM and NAND prices could surge by over 60% in 2026. SK Hynix's lead in HBM3E and upcoming HBM4 technology allows it to capture premium margins as global tech giants expand AI data centers.
To sustain this, SK Hynix is committing billions to new advanced packaging facilities and manufacturing hubs in South Korea. These investments aim to address "insatiable" AI demand, positioning the company as the primary anchor of the global semiconductor supply chain.
