Meta and Apple to adopt OLEDoS technology for future AR glasses

Monday, February 16, 2026 at 10:46 AM

Market research firm Omdia reports that Meta plans to release AR glasses utilizing OLEDoS display technology for both eyes in 2027, with Apple expected to launch a similar product in 2028.

Context

Meta and Apple are pivoting toward OLEDoS (OLED on Silicon) technology for their upcoming augmented reality glasses. Meta is scheduled to debut AR eyewear with dual OLEDoS displays in 2027, followed by a similar release from Apple in 2028. This transition is essential for miniaturizing components to fit traditional frame styles while maintaining extreme pixel densities of 3,000+ PPI and the high brightness necessary for outdoor visibility. The move signals a massive expansion for the specialized micro-display market, with revenues projected to hit $1.2 billion in 2026 and nearly $3 billion by 2028. To support this ramp, Meta is already reportedly in supply discussions with manufacturers BOE and Seeya. For investors, this synchronized shift confirms OLEDoS as the definitive manufacturing standard for the next generation of high-volume consumer wearables.
