Samsung Electronics is reportedly beginning pilot production of Tesla's AI5 chips this month, with Elon Musk personally involved in meetings. The chips, along with AI6, will be manufactured using Samsung's 2-nanometer process, potentially at its Taylor fab. While initial contracts are short-term loss-making, the long-term potential across Tesla's AI ecosystem (autonomous vehicles, robotaxis, humanoid robots, AI servers) and TSMC's capacity limitations make this a strategically important deal for Samsung's foundry business.
