Meta Platforms has entered a multi-year agreement to procure up to 6 gigawatts of power capacity worth of GPUs from AMD, specifically targeting the upcoming Instinct MI450 series starting in the second half of 2026. The deal reportedly includes an option for Meta to acquire up to 10% of AMD's shares. Based on estimated power consumption of 1400W per unit, the procurement could represent approximately 4.3 million GPUs.

Context

Meta has entered a massive multi-year partnership with AMD to deploy 6GW of AI infrastructure starting in H2 2026. The deployment focuses on custom AMD Instinct MI450 GPUs and 6th Gen EPYC processors. This deal establishes AMD as a primary systems provider for Meta’s next-generation data centers, directly challenging incumbent dominance in the AI accelerator market. The financial scale is substantial, with CEO Lisa Su valuing the equipment at "double-digit billions" per gigawatt, suggesting a total project value potentially surpassing $60 billion. To secure the commitment, AMD granted Meta performance-based warrants for 160 million shares at an exercise price of $0.01. Vesting is strictly tied to reaching the 6GW target and AMD stock price milestones hitting as high as $600. AMD shares jumped 15% pre-market on the news, which provides years of revenue visibility and validates its Helios rack-scale architecture. For Meta, the agreement ensures a diversified supply chain while aligning its long-term AI scaling needs with AMD's hardware roadmap.
