STMicroelectronics introduces Stellar P3E automotive microcontroller with integrated AI accelerator
Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at 08:52 AM
STMicroelectronics has introduced the Stellar P3E automotive microcontroller, which features an integrated proprietary AI accelerator (NPU) designed for next-generation vehicle architectures.
Context
STMicroelectronics has announced the Stellar P3E, the industry’s first automotive microcontroller featuring a dedicated integrated AI accelerator. Designed to support the shift toward software-defined vehicles, the new chip integrates an ST Neural-ART Accelerator alongside 500 MHz Arm Cortex-R52+ cores. This dedicated neural processing unit enables inference speeds at the microsecond level, delivering up to 30x greater efficiency for AI workloads compared to traditional processors. Production is scheduled to begin in Q4 2026.
The launch is a strategic move to simplify "X-in-1" Electronic Control Units, which consolidate multiple vehicle functions to reduce weight and cost. By leveraging proprietary xMemory phase-change technology, which offers 2x the density of standard flash, the Stellar P3E supports complex real-time tasks like predictive maintenance and virtual sensing. As the third-largest automotive microcontroller supplier with an 8.8% market share, STMicroelectronics aims to solidify its position as a leader in electrification and edge intelligence within the high-growth automotive semiconductor sector.
