Samsung DS division prioritizes high-margin memory, impacting internal supply to display and appliance divisions

Thursday, January 1, 2026 at 09:18 AM

Samsung's Device Solutions (DS) Division is prioritizing high-margin memory production, leading to a severe memory supply shortage for its Visual Display (VD) and Digital Appliances (DA) divisions. These divisions are struggling to secure adequate low-capacity memory, impacting their production plans and ability to transition to next-generation memory. The DS Division is reportedly dedicating resources to high-value products like LPDDR for AI accelerators, specifically mentioning NVIDIA's 'Vera Rubin,' and is struggling to meet internal demand for lower-capacity memory. The Mobile eXperience (MX) Division, however, is having smoother negotiations for LPDDR5X with DS Division and Micron, albeit at higher prices.
