SoftBank Group plans to invest approximately 80 trillion yen (roughly $530 billion USD) into the United States for the construction of artificial intelligence data centers, marking a significant commitment to AI infrastructure.

Context

As of March 2026, SoftBank Group has dramatically accelerated its "all-in" AI strategy, headlined by a massive 80 trillion yen (approx. $500 billion) investment commitment to build AI data centers across the United States. This initiative, part of the overarching Stargate Project launched in early 2025 alongside OpenAI and Oracle, aims to deliver 10 gigawatts of compute capacity by the end of 2025. To fund this expansion, SoftBank has aggressively monetized non-core assets, including the total sale of its Nvidia stake for $5.8 billion and significant portions of its T-Mobile holdings. The firm’s financial pivot is already yielding results, with SoftBank reporting a 3.17 trillion yen profit for the nine months ending December 2025, a five-fold increase year-over-year. This capital is being funneled into a vertically integrated AI ecosystem encompassing Arm-based chips, robotics, and energy infrastructure to support the goal of realizing Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI).
