ByteDance and Alibaba are preparing to release new AI models next month, according to reports. ByteDance intends to debut three distinct models, while Alibaba is scheduled to launch its next-generation AI model.
Context
Alibaba and ByteDance are set to launch a new suite of artificial intelligence models in February 2026, timed to coincide with the Lunar New Year holiday. ByteDance plans to unveil three specialized tools—the Doubao 2.0 language model, the Seedream 5.0 image generator, and the SeedDance 2.0 video platform. Simultaneously, Alibaba will introduce Qwen 3.5, a next-generation large language model designed for complex reasoning and enterprise tasks, following the recent successful rollout of its Qwen3-Max-Thinking inference model.
This expansion is a key component of Alibaba’s strategy to capture 80% of China’s incremental AI cloud market. The company projects cloud revenue will reach 240 billion yuan by 2028, supported by its Qwen app ecosystem which already exceeds 100 million monthly active users. To fuel this growth, Alibaba and ByteDance are reportedly securing a significant portion of a 400,000 Nvidia H200 chip order, marking a massive capital investment to maintain competitive parity with global leaders.
