Nexchip Semiconductor is reportedly planning a secondary listing or significant corporate expansion into the Hong Kong financial market.

On April 1, 2026, Nexchip Semiconductor, China’s third-largest chip foundry, officially filed for a dual listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Already listed on Shanghai’s STAR Market, the state-backed firm is seeking international capital to fuel an aggressive $5.1 billion expansion. This move comes as Nexchip reports significant growth, with 2025 revenues reaching $1.58 billion and production lines operating at near-full capacity of 139,000 wafers per month to meet surging domestic demand.
The capital injection is primarily designated for the Phase IV project in Hefei, which broke ground in January 2026. This project aims to establish a new 12-inch wafer production line targeting a monthly capacity of 55,000 wafers by 2028. While historically focused on mature nodes between 150nm and 40nm for display drivers, Nexchip recently reached a critical milestone in March 2026 by completing development for its 28nm logic platform, positioning itself to capture the high-growth Edge AI and automotive sensor markets.
This listing highlights a broader trend of Chinese semiconductor firms turning to Hong Kong to bypass geopolitical restrictions and secure funding for legacy node dominance. By scaling its 40nm and 28nm capabilities, Nexchip is fortifying China's mature-process supply chain, which is essential for global electronics, smartphones, and smart vehicles. The firm now ranks as the world’s 9th largest foundry, trailing only SMIC and Hua Hong within mainland China.
