Rohm and Tata Electronics have established a strategic partnership for semiconductor manufacturing. As their first project, Tata Electronics will handle the assembly and testing of Rohm-designed automotive 100V, 300A N-channel Si MOSFETs in TOLL packaging, with mass production scheduled to begin in India next year.
Context
Japanese semiconductor manufacturer Rohm has entered a strategic partnership with Tata Electronics to collaborate on the production and design of power semiconductors. Under this agreement, Rohm will provide technical support and intellectual property for Silicon Carbide and Silicon power devices, which are essential for high-efficiency energy management. The collaboration will utilize Tata Electronics’ upcoming semiconductor manufacturing facilities, marking a major expansion of the global supply chain into South Asia.
This partnership aligns with India’s goal to establish a domestic chip ecosystem, supported by Tata Electronics’ planned investment of approximately $11 billion for a new wafer fabrication plant in Gujarat and an assembly facility in Assam. For Rohm, the deal secures a production foothold in a high-growth market while diversifying its manufacturing base. Commercial production at these facilities is expected to commence by 2026, targeting the surging demand for power components in electric vehicles, industrial automation, and green energy infrastructure.
