Samsung Electro-Mechanics expands into glass substrates and silicon capacitors for advanced packaging

Sunday, December 28, 2025 at 06:41 AM

Samsung Electro-Mechanics is seeing growth potential in advanced semiconductor packaging materials, including glass substrates and silicon capacitors, as well as hybrid lenses and energy components like SOFC and SOEC.

Context

Samsung Electro-Mechanics is pivoting toward high-growth AI infrastructure by accelerating its entry into the glass substrate and silicon capacitor markets. The company recently operationalized a pilot production line for glass substrates at its Sejong facility and expects to supply samples to major tech clients by the end of 2025. This transition is critical for next-generation AI accelerators, as glass provides the thermal stability and flatness needed for dense chip integration that traditional organic materials lack, with full mass production slated for 2027. In the capacitor segment, Samsung Electro-Mechanics began mass-producing silicon capacitors in Q1 2025, securing Marvell Technology as a primary customer for its AI accelerator platform. These advanced components are optimized for high-performance computing, offering superior power stability and miniaturization for high-speed data processing. Through these expansions—alongside developments in hybrid lenses and solid oxide fuel cells—the company aims to secure over 100 billion won in new business revenue within two years, positioning itself as a specialized supplier for global hyperscalers and the AI supply chain.
