Intel has announced the Xeon 600 series processors for workstations, utilizing the Intel 3 process node.

Context

Intel has officially launched the Xeon 600 series workstation processors, code-named Granite Rapids-WS, marking the first time these high-end desktop chips have been built on the advanced Intel 3 process node. The new lineup features up to 86 performance cores and supports up to 4TB of DDR5 memory across eight channels. These specifications are designed to handle intensive AI development, data science, and massive 3D rendering workloads, offering up to 61% higher multi-threaded performance compared to the previous generation. This release is a strategic milestone for Intel as it completes the third of its "five nodes in four years" manufacturing goal, signaling the readiness of its leading-edge foundry services for high-volume production. By positioning the 600 series against AMD’s Threadripper series, Intel aims to recapture market share in the professional workstation segment. Systems from major partners including Dell, Lenovo, and Supermicro are scheduled for availability in late March, with individual processor pricing ranging from $499 to $7,699.
