DDR5 and eSSD spot prices significantly decouple from Micron and Samsung contract rates

Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at 04:52 AM

Spot prices for 64GB DDR5 memory in the Huaqiangbei market have surged to approximately $2,500, which is nearly double the Q2 2026 contract rates of $1,250–1,500 offered by Micron and Samsung. Additionally, enterprise SSD (eSSD) spot pricing has reached $0.5/GB, significantly exceeding contract pricing of $0.3/GB.

Context

The memory market is experiencing a severe supply-demand imbalance as of March 2026, characterized by a massive decoupling between spot and contract pricing. In the Huaqiangbei electronics hub, 64GB DDR5 spot prices have surged to $2,500, nearly double the Q2 2026 contract rates of $1,250–$1,500 set by leaders Micron and Samsung. This trend extends to enterprise storage, where eSSD spot pricing has reached $0.5/GB against contract levels of $0.3/GB. This volatility follows a period where Samsung reportedly doubled its DDR5 contract prices due to depleted inventories. This structural shortage is largely driven by the cannibalization of standard wafer capacity to meet the explosive demand for High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM). With Micron reporting that its entire 2026 HBM supply is already sold out and HBM requiring triple the wafer capacity of DDR5, analysts expect the 'memory supercycle' and accompanying price distortions to persist through 2027.
