Vertiv and Generate Capital partner on modular data center power and cooling solution

Thursday, March 5, 2026 at 06:54 AM

Vertiv and Generate Capital have partnered on a 'Bring Your Own Power & Cooling' (BYOP&C) model to address data center grid constraints. Vertiv will provide modular infrastructure while Generate Capital handles financing and operations, allowing data center operators to deploy on-site power generation in markets where utility access is delayed. This capital-light approach follows Vertiv's previous infrastructure collaborations with Caterpillar and Solar Turbines.

Context

On March 4, 2026, Vertiv (VRT) and Generate Capital announced a strategic collaboration to provide integrated Bring Your Own Power & Cooling (BYOP&C) solutions for data centers in the United States. Under this model, Vertiv supplies modular power and cooling infrastructure while Generate Capital provides project financing, asset ownership, and operations. This capital-light arrangement allows operators to bypass utility delays by deploying on-site generation, such as natural gas turbines, and transitioning to grid power later. This move follows a similar November 2025 agreement between Vertiv and Caterpillar (CAT), further solidifying the BYOP&C ecosystem as a critical workaround for grid-constrained markets. The collaboration directly addresses the massive energy requirements of AI-driven workloads, which often face multi-year wait times for traditional utility interconnections. By combining pre-engineered modular blocks with flexible financing, the partnership enables hyperscalers to scale capacity rapidly without the typical upfront capital expenditure or infrastructure bottlenecks.
