STMicroelectronics (ST) has announced the release of the "STM32WL3RSoC," a new low-power wireless System-on-Chip product designed for use in remote controls.

Context

In November 2025, STMicroelectronics announced the STM32WL3RSoC, a new low-power sub-GHz wireless SoC specifically designed for remote controls and smart-home applications. This device enhances the STM32WL3 family by adding 6 wake-up pins and new ultra-low-power modes, notably becoming the first to support the 315 MHz band crucial for North American remote controls. This strategic launch targets a significant market segment with enhanced capabilities. This innovation is significant for extending device longevity, with STMicroelectronics reporting a radio transmit current of just 10 mA at 10 dBm. This efficiency enables multi-year battery life, potentially up to 10 years, for many remote applications. Its impressive sleep metrics, including 450 nA ultra-deep stop and 14 nA shutdown, coupled with a compact 5 mm x 5 mm QFN32 package, position it as a cost-effective solution for OEMs looking to reduce bill of materials. The STM32WL3R is already in production, with broader availability expected in early 2026, and pricing starting from $1.2654 for high volumes. This launch reinforces STMicroelectronics' leadership in low-power wireless solutions and is poised to drive adoption in the rapidly expanding IoT and smart-home markets.
