Altera and Arm partner on AI data center solutions combining FPGA and AGI CPUs
Friday, March 27, 2026 at 07:40 AM
Altera and Arm are collaborating to integrate FPGA technology with AGI CPUs specifically for AI data center solutions, aiming to optimize infrastructure performance.
Context
On March 25, 2026, Altera and Arm Holdings announced an expanded partnership to integrate Altera FPGAs with the newly launched Arm AGI CPU. This collaboration marks a significant shift from their traditional focus on embedded systems toward high-growth AI data center infrastructure. By combining programmable FPGA logic with the Arm Neoverse CSS V3-based silicon, the companies aim to provide system architects with low-latency, scalable platforms specifically designed for agentic AI workloads.
This development is part of a broader milestone for Arm, which debuted its first-ever production silicon, the Arm AGI CPU, on March 24, 2026. The new CPU is engineered to deliver more than 2x performance per rack compared to current x86 platforms while supporting massive scale-out across thousands of cores. Altera, as the world’s largest pure-play FPGA provider, will leverage its existing footprint in SmartNICs and DPUs to enhance the orchestration and efficiency of these next-generation AI environments.
