Moore Threads develops ARM laptop processor as Chinese alternative to Western silicon

Sunday, February 22, 2026 at 12:35 PM

Moore Threads is developing an ARM-based laptop processor, positioning it as a domestic Chinese alternative to established hardware from Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm.

Context

Moore Threads has launched the "MTT AI Book," China’s first domestic ARM-based laptop, powered by its custom 12-core MT1000 processor. Part of the new Yangtze SoC, the chip integrates a MUSA-based GPU and an NPU delivering 50 TOPS of AI performance, rivaling current offerings from AMD and Qualcomm. This release marks a strategic expansion from specialized GPUs into the consumer PC market, directly challenging the dominance of Intel within China’s domestic tech ecosystem. The launch follows a successful $1.1 billion IPO in late 2025 and a projected 3x revenue surge for the current year. While initial benchmarks show the MT1000 still trails Western performance leads, the 9,999 CNY laptop is a milestone in Beijing's push for semiconductor self-sufficiency. As US export controls tighten, Moore Threads is positioning itself as the primary local alternative for AI-integrated hardware, supported by a 231% year-over-year revenue growth forecast.
