Fujitsu joins PSMC to develop power-efficient memory technologies

Thursday, December 25, 2025 at 09:13 PM

Fujitsu has reportedly joined a partnership with PSMC to develop low-power memory technologies.

Context

Fujitsu has partnered with SoftBank Group to develop specialized, energy-efficient memory for AI applications. The collaboration aims to solve the "memory wall" problem, where the energy required to move data between processors and memory hinders AI performance. By leveraging Fujitsu’s advanced chip design and SoftBank’s massive data center roadmap, the project targets a 90% reduction in power consumption compared to conventional hardware. This initiative is a critical component of Japan’s broader strategy to rebuild its domestic semiconductor ecosystem and reduce dependence on foreign suppliers. Development is set to begin in 2025, with commercialization and data center integration targeted for 2027. For investors, this underscores a shift toward hardware-level efficiency as the primary driver for AI scalability, positioning Fujitsu and SoftBank as key architects in the next generation of sustainable AI infrastructure.
