A recent report from research firm Omdia indicates that Nvidia and the top three global memory manufacturers (Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron) together accounted for 42% of the total global semiconductor revenue in the previous fiscal period, driven largely by the surge in AI infrastructure demand.

Context

New research from Omdia reveals a massive concentration of power in the semiconductor industry, with Nvidia and the top three memory makers—Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron—now accounting for 42% of global semiconductor revenue as of 2025. This is a dramatic surge from their combined 24% market share in 2023. The shift highlights how AI-driven demand is cannibalizing the broader market, as the total industry surpassed $830 billion in 2025 following two consecutive years of 20% annual growth. The consolidation is driven by the critical pairing of AI GPUs and High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM). While the top ten semiconductor companies saw revenues jump 90% between 2023 and 2025, the rest of the market grew by only 8%. Nvidia has emerged as the clear leader, becoming the first chipmaker to surpass $100 billion in annual semiconductor revenue, while the memory trio benefited from DRAM revenues nearly tripling from 2023 lows to over $150 billion in 2025.
