Sunic System wins equipment order for BOE 8.6-generation OLED deposition line

Sunic Systems has secured an equipment order for the second stage of BOE's 8.6-generation OLED deposition line.

Context

South Korean equipment manufacturer Sunic System has secured a follow-on order for the second-stage deposition line at BOE’s B16 facility, an 8.6-generation OLED plant in Chengdu. This follows the successful installation of Phase 1 equipment, with the overall 63 billion RMB ($8.7 billion) project now running roughly four months ahead of schedule. BOE expects to "light up" the line by December 2025, targeting mass production of IT-grade OLED panels for laptops and tablets by Q3 2026. The deal is a significant strategic win for Sunic System, as it solidifies the company as a viable alternative to Japan’s Canon Tokki. Sunic System’s deposition machines are estimated to cost between 400 billion and 500 billion won (approx. $300-$375 million), roughly half the price of its Japanese competitor. This cost advantage is critical as the industry shifts toward larger IT OLED formats, where managing capital expenditure is essential for competing against established South Korean panel makers.
