Sumitomo Chemical is acquiring Asia Union Electronic Chemical Corporation (AUECC) to secure new manufacturing bases for high-purity process chemicals in Taiwan and the US (Nevada), aiming to double its semiconductor materials sales by FY2030. This strategic move strengthens its global supply chain to meet surging demand from advanced chip manufacturing, driven by AI and data centers.
Context
On November 20, 2025, Sumitomo Chemical announced a definitive agreement to acquire 100% of Asia Union Electronic Chemical Corporation (AUECC), a Taiwanese manufacturer of semiconductor process chemicals. The deal, which is subject to customary regulatory approvals, is a strategic move to capture growth from the AI and data center boom, which demands ultra-high purity chemicals for advanced chip manufacturing.
The acquisition gives Sumitomo Chemical its first production base in Taiwan (Kaohsiung) and a second in the U.S. (Nevada), significantly strengthening its global supply chain alongside its existing Texas facility. By integrating AUECC and its approximately 200 employees, Sumitomo Chemical aims to leverage the company's established sales networks and customer relationships. This transaction is a critical step toward Sumitomo Chemical's goal of doubling its semiconductor materials sales from FY2024 levels by FY2030.
