Monday, December 22, 2025 at 09:40 PM

Alps Alpine has launched a new geomagnetic sensor measuring 1.55mm square with a resolution of 0.075μT/LSB.

Context

Alps Alpine has launched its latest geomagnetic sensor, achieving a compact 1.55mm square footprint with a high resolution of 0.075μT/LSB. This component is designed specifically for the precision demands of AR/VR headsets and wearables, where accurate orientation is vital for next-generation AI-integrated hardware. The launch signals a strategic push into spatial computing and high-end consumer electronics. To scale this technology, Alps Alpine is leveraging its strategic partnership with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp. (PSMC). Under their recent agreement, Alps Alpine is transferring its sensor manufacturing assets to PSMC to adopt an asset-light business model. This allows PSMC to act as the primary foundry, optimizing production costs while Alps Alpine focuses its resources on high-value R&D and design. Mass production is ramping up to meet demand for 2025 delivery cycles. This supply chain consolidation ensures a stable flow of high-performance sensors while allowing PSMC to solidify its role as a key foundry partner for advanced sensing technology in the AI hardware era.
