FDK has started shipping samples of a new constant voltage charging model for their oxide-based all-solid-state batteries.

Context

FDK has commenced sample shipments of a new constant voltage charging model for its oxide-based all-solid-state batteries, marketed under the SoLiCell brand. This iteration simplifies circuit design for miniaturized devices by allowing direct charging from standard power rails without complex dedicated ICs. Targeted at the IoT, medical, and wearable sectors, these batteries utilize a non-flammable oxide-based electrolyte and lithium cobalt pyrophosphate cathode material to ensure high safety and thermal stability across a wide temperature range. This technical milestone coincides with a major shift in the company’s ownership structure. Silitech Technology recently completed a public tender offer to acquire a 45% stake in FDK from Fujitsu at 435 Japanese yen per share. The strategic move positions Silitech to integrate FDK’s next-generation battery technology into its AI and semiconductor supply chain, specifically for high-performance, lightweight components in 5G and automotive sectors. This consolidation aims to leverage FDK’s R&D in solid-state power to meet the growing demand for energy-efficient AI hardware.
