JOGMEC identifies key global manufacturers of silicon and gallium oxide single crystals
Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at 11:17 AM
A report from JOGMEC identifies major global suppliers of silicon single crystals and gallium oxide (Ga2O3) substrates, highlighting key participants in the upstream semiconductor wafer material supply chain.
Context
The Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) has highlighted a highly consolidated global supply chain for single crystals, emphasizing Japan’s strategic dominance. Leading the silicon wafer market, Shin-Etsu Chemical and SUMCO currently control roughly 50% of global supply, while GlobalWafers and Siltronic round out the top tier. This concentration makes these firms indispensable to the semiconductor industry, as high-purity silicon remains the foundational material for nearly all modern electronics and AI processors.
The report also identifies gallium oxide (Ga2O3) as a critical frontier for power semiconductors, where manufacturers are racing to commercialize crystals that offer higher efficiency than current alternatives. With the global power semiconductor market expected to reach $63 billion by 2030, these single-crystal producers are becoming focal points for supply chain resilience. Investors are focusing on these companies as they scale production to meet the surge in demand from electric vehicle infrastructure and large-scale AI data centers through 2025 and beyond.
