GlobalWafers is accelerating its expansion plans in Texas and ramping up production in Missouri to meet the rising global demand for AI chips. Chair Doris Hsu indicated the company expects sequential growth each quarter throughout the year.

Context

GlobalWafers has officially begun preparations for the phase two expansion of its advanced 300mm silicon wafer facility in Sherman, Texas. Announced by Chairperson Doris Hsu on January 21, 2026, this stage follows the successful completion of the initial phase and is contingent on securing long-term customer commitments. The project serves as a cornerstone for U.S. semiconductor self-sufficiency, representing the first domestic high-volume source of 12-inch wafers in over 20 years. The expansion is part of a total investment strategy now projected at $7.5 billion, which includes an additional $4 billion to fund future growth. Supported by $406 million in direct CHIPS Act funding, the facility aims to reach an eventual monthly capacity of 1 million wafers. By localizing production, GlobalWafers is positioning itself to provide a secure supply for major partners like TSMC and Intel while mitigating global trade and tariff risks.
