Siliconware Precision Industries acquires Innolux plant for NT$6.3 billion to speed up advanced packaging expansion
Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at 12:43 AM
Siliconware Precision Industries (SPIL) has acquired a former Innolux manufacturing facility for NT$6.3 billion (approximately US$200 million) to accelerate the expansion of its advanced packaging capacity. This move allows SPIL to bypass construction timelines and move directly to equipment installation. Additionally, SPIL secured a 20-year lease on land in a central Taiwan science park near Taichung for NT$344 million to further bolster its semiconductor infrastructure operations.
Context
Nvidia partner Siliconware Precision Industries (SPIL), a subsidiary of ASE Technology Holding, has acquired a production plant from Innolux for NT$6.3 billion (approx. US$200 million) to accelerate its advanced packaging footprint. The deal is strategically motivated by speed to market, as retrofitting an existing facility allows SPIL to install machinery and scale capacity significantly faster than constructing a new site. For Innolux, the transaction is expected to net a profit of nearly NT$6 billion, aiding its financial recovery as it pivots toward the semiconductor ecosystem.
This acquisition comes amid an intense global crunch for CoWoS and other advanced packaging technologies essential for AI and high-performance computing. To further support this growth, SPIL also secured a 20-year lease on land in the Central Taiwan Science Park for NT$344 million. These moves align with parent company ASE's broader 2026 strategy to increase advanced packaging revenue by US$1 billion, ensuring the supply chain can meet the surging hardware demands of customers like Nvidia.
