Samsung Mobile Division Reportedly Negotiating LPDDR5X Supply with Micron
Thursday, December 11, 2025 at 09:46 AM
Samsung's smartphone division is reportedly in talks with Micron Technology to secure LPDDR5X memory chips supply.
Context
Samsung Mobile Division (MX) is reportedly negotiating with Micron for LPDDR5X supply, a crucial move given surging mobile DRAM prices. Samsung CEO Roh Tae-moon is expected to meet Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra at CES 2026 to discuss supply for the upcoming Galaxy S26 series. This situation arises as Samsung's own semiconductor division (DS) prioritizes high-margin AI-focused HBM, leading to quarterly supply negotiations with its mobile unit instead of long-term agreements. The urgency is driven by a significant price increase for LPDDR5X, with 12GB LPDDR5X modules reaching approximately USD 70 in late November 2025, more than double the USD 33 earlier in the year. Micron has been a key supplier for Samsung's mobile DRAM, reportedly for the Galaxy S25, and is sampling advanced 1Îł-based LPDDR5X 16GB modules for 2026 flagship smartphones. This highlights evolving semiconductor supply chain dynamics, where external partnerships are vital for Samsung's immediate mobile product roadmap.
