Kyocera and Toyota lead new consortium for V2X wireless infrastructure development

Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at 02:40 AM

Kyocera and Toyota are establishing a new consortium to promote the adoption of road-side wireless stations for V2X (vehicle-to-everything) driving assistance technology.

Context

Kyocera and Toyota have partnered with Denso, Sumitomo Electric, Kyosan Electric, and Nippon Signal to launch a new consortium dedicated to the rollout of V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) wireless infrastructure. Formally established in December 2025, the 760MHz Band ITS Roadside Unit Promotion Consortium aims to standardize and accelerate the installation of wireless roadside units across Japan. This collaboration focuses on the 760MHz band to enable seamless, real-time communication between vehicles and traffic infrastructure, a foundational requirement for the safe deployment of Level 4 autonomous driving. The initiative addresses critical scaling challenges within the semiconductor and smart mobility supply chains. While approximately 560,000 compatible vehicles were already on the road as of March 2025, the focus has now shifted toward building a unified roadside network that prevents signal interference and reduces deployment costs. This strategic move signals a maturing market for high-reliability wireless modules and specialized chips as the industry prepares for nationwide autonomous integration.
