STMicroelectronics announces resonant converter controller IC featuring phase-shift control technology

Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at 05:40 AM

STMicroelectronics has introduced a new controller integrated circuit for resonant converter circuits that utilizes phase-shift control technology to enhance power efficiency in power supply systems.

Context

STMicroelectronics has launched the STNRG599A and STNRG599B, a new series of resonant converter controllers utilizing innovative phase-shift control technology. These ICs are designed to enhance efficiency in high-demand power systems, specifically targeting applications ranging from 90W to several hundred watts. By directly controlling the phase shift between half-bridge voltage and resonant current, these devices significantly improve no-load efficiency and provide stable, flicker-free dimming for advanced lighting systems. This development is strategically significant for the AI and data center supply chains, where power density and energy recovery are critical for operational cost reduction. The new technology reduces sensitivity to component tolerances and stabilizes transitions, allowing for more robust and compact power supply designs. Both controllers are in production now with a starting price of $0.61 for orders of 1,000 pieces, offering a cost-effective solution for industrial SMPS and consumer electronics manufacturers seeking to meet tightening global energy standards.
