Panasonic is investing 7.5 billion yen in its Guangzhou, China facility to expand production lines for multilayer substrate materials. This investment aims to meet growing demand for advanced electronic components.
Context
Panasonic Industry is investing approximately 7.5 billion yen to install a new production line at its Guangzhou facility for MEGTRON multilayer circuit board materials. These specialized materials are critical for high-speed communication and AI infrastructure, offering the ultra-low transmission loss essential for next-generation AI servers, routers, and switches. This move follows a significant 17 billion yen expansion in Thailand, highlighting a concentrated push to support the global generative AI supply chain.
The investment is a key component of a broader strategic initiative to double global MEGTRON production capacity over five years. By expanding in Guangzhou, Panasonic is positioning itself to capture significant demand within the Chinese market, which remains a primary hub for AI hardware manufacturing. The new production line is scheduled to commence operations in April 2027, with mass production expected to ramp up within the same fiscal year to meet the accelerating demand for high-performance computing components.
