Micron maintains stable outlook amid expected HBM4 market segmentation
Sunday, March 8, 2026 at 10:47 AM
The HBM4 market is expected to see a division of labor or market segmentation, suggesting a stable outlook for Micron's positioning in the high-bandwidth memory supply chain.
Context
Memory giant Micron has dismissed market rumors of being sidelined by NVIDIA, confirming it has moved into high-volume production of HBM4 and began shipping to customers in Q1 2026, one quarter ahead of previous guidance. While competitors like Samsung and SK Hynix are also ramping production, Micron reports that its HBM4 achieves industry-leading speeds exceeding 11Gbps and has already sold out its entire 2026 supply under multi-year contracts.
This acceleration is critical as the total addressable market for HBM is projected to exceed $30 billion in 2025 and potentially reach $100 billion by 2028. Micron is aggressively expanding its manufacturing footprint, pulling forward wafer output at its Idaho fab to mid-2027 and exploring further acquisitions in Taiwan to secure long-term capacity. The company expects to generate multiple billions in HBM revenue for fiscal 2025, supported by strong demand for next-generation platforms like NVIDIA’s Blackwell and the upcoming Vera Rubin.
