Samsung and AMD have expanded their strategic partnership to include the supply of HBM4 memory for AMD Instinct MI455X GPUs. The collaboration also covers next-generation DDR5 solutions tailored for AMD EPYC processors and the AMD Helios platform, targeting enhanced data center performance and AI acceleration.

Context

On March 18, 2026, Samsung Electronics and AMD signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to expand their strategic collaboration into next-generation AI memory. Under this agreement, Samsung will serve as the primary supplier of HBM4 for AMD’s Instinct MI455X GPUs and provide advanced DDR5 solutions for the 6th Gen AMD EPYC "Venice" processors. These components are critical for the AMD Helios platform, a rack-scale AI infrastructure designed to compete with Nvidia’s high-end systems. This partnership is a significant win for Samsung, which recently became the first in the industry to mass-produce HBM4 using its 1c DRAM and 4nm logic processes. The MI455X is expected to integrate 432GB of HBM4 per GPU, offering a massive 3.3 TB/s bandwidth. Beyond memory, the MOU opens discussions for AMD to potentially use Samsung’s foundry services for future silicon, signaling a deeper integration across the semiconductor supply chain.
