Toyota has selected Renesas' fourth-generation automotive SoC for the Safety Sense control unit in the new RAV4 model. This selection highlights the ongoing supply chain partnership for advanced driver-assistance systems between the two Japanese firms.

Context

Renesas Electronics confirmed that its fourth-generation R-Car V4H system-on-chip (SoC) has been selected for the Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 control unit in the all-new Toyota RAV4. This high-volume design win, which debuted with the vehicle’s launch in December 2025, marks a critical milestone for Renesas as it solidifies its leadership in the competitive advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) segment. The R-Car V4H delivers 34 TOPS of AI processing power with an industry-leading efficiency of 9 TOPS/Watt, enabling advanced safety features such as intersection collision avoidance and motorcycle detection. By integrating with Toyota's Arene software platform, the SoC supports the automotive industry's transition toward software-defined vehicles (SDVs). This adoption by a global leader like Toyota highlights Renesas's ability to provide high-performance, energy-efficient silicon that meets the strict ASIL D functional safety standards required for mass-market automated driving.
