Nuvoton Begins Mass Production of Industry-Leading Compact, High-Power Violet Semiconductor Laser Diode

Thursday, November 27, 2025 at 07:40 AM

Nuvoton has started mass production of a new, high-power (1.7W) violet semiconductor laser diode (402nm) in a compact package, which the company states offers industry-leading optical output power and long life. This component targets applications including direct imaging for PCB and advanced semiconductor package manufacturing, as well as mercury lamp replacement solutions.

Context

On November 27, 2025, Nuvoton Technology announced a new high-power violet laser diode, delivering 1.7W at 402nm in a compact TO-56 package. This represents a 40% power increase over its previous models and offers a significantly longer operational life, addressing key demands for smaller, more reliable optical systems. While the product was just announced, mass production is scheduled to begin in March 2026, timing its availability for upcoming manufacturing cycles. This new laser directly targets industrial applications like Laser Direct Imaging (LDI) and resin curing, aiming to replace older mercury lamp technology in semiconductor equipment. This makes it a potentially critical component for equipment manufacturers such as NuFlare Technology, a key supplier of mask writing and inspection systems for the semiconductor industry. By providing a higher-performance light source, Nuvoton is positioning itself to become a key supplier for next-generation semiconductor and AI hardware production as new fabs ramp in 2026.
