World's First 100μF Board-Embedded MLCC in 2012 Size Launched for AI Servers
Friday, December 5, 2025 at 10:40 AM
A new, compact 2012-size multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) with a 100μF capacitance, designed for board embedding in high-power applications like AI server ICs, has been commercialized as a world-first new technology launch.
Context
In a significant development for the semiconductor and AI supply chain, Taiyo Yuden has announced the mass production, commencing in November 2025, of the world's first 100µF board-embedded multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) in a 2012 size (2.0 x 1.25 mm).
This innovation is particularly crucial for AI servers and other high-performance computing devices. These systems demand compact, high-capacity components to efficiently deliver power and decouple integrated circuits (ICs) that consume substantial power. By embedding these 100µF MLCCs directly into circuit boards, Taiyo Yuden aims to minimize circuit loss and noise by placing them closer to the ICs, addressing the growing need for miniaturization and enhanced power integrity in advanced electronic systems. The company plans to continue developing even higher capacitance MLCCs.
