SK Hynix partners with Dongjin Semichem to localize high-performance EUV photoresist

Sunday, December 7, 2025 at 10:40 AM

SK Hynix has reportedly partnered with Dongjin Semichem to develop a superior EUV photoresist intended to replace materials currently supplied by Japanese competitors like JSR and Tokyo Ohka Kogyo (TOK). The move follows a previous, lower-spec localization effort in 2023 by the SK Hynix affiliate, SK Materials Performance.

Context

Reports indicate that SK Hynix is moving towards a joint development of EUV photoresist with Dongjin Semichem, a strategic move to bolster its supply chain for advanced memory. SK Hynix is at the forefront of next-generation lithography, having announced the assembly of the industry's first High-NA EUV tool at its M16 fab by September 2025. This advanced technology is expected to enable the printing of transistors 1.7 times smaller and achieve transistor densities 2.9 times higher than existing EUV systems, crucial for future DRAM and AI memory. Dongjin Semichem is a well-established domestic photoresist supplier with a proven track record, having developed and commercialized EUV resists, including negative PR, and supplied major foundries. The company's photoresist sales reached ₩230 billion (~$177 million) last year. While a formal announcement of a joint development agreement has not been publicly released, the combined capabilities of SK Hynix's High-NA rollout and Dongjin Semichem's EUV expertise strongly suggest a collaboration aimed at securing critical materials for cutting-edge semiconductor manufacturing.
