SambaNova and Intel have entered into a strategic partnership rather than an acquisition, focusing on the details of the fifth-generation SN50 chip. The collaboration aims to leverage Intel's manufacturing capabilities and SambaNova's architectural design for AI acceleration.

Context

Intel has entered a multi-year strategic alliance with AI startup SambaNova Systems to deliver integrated semiconductor solutions for data centers. This partnership combines Intel’s Xeon processors with SambaNova’s specialized dataflow architecture to challenge the market dominance of Nvidia and counter the rising influence of AMD and Broadcom. By offering a unified hardware-software stack, the duo seeks to capture the rapidly growing AI inference market, which is expected to account for over 80% of enterprise AI workloads in the coming years. To support this expansion, SambaNova raised $350 million in new funding, with strategic participation from Intel Capital. The startup also unveiled its SN50 AI chip, which reportedly runs agentic workflows 5x faster than existing competitors at a 3x lower operational cost. SoftBank Group has already committed to being the first major customer to deploy the SN50 within its Japanese data centers, signaling a critical pivot in the global supply chain toward specialized, cost-efficient inference silicon.
