Context

AMD has expanded its AI PC roadmap by confirming the Ryzen AI 400 and Ryzen AI PRO 400 series APUs for the desktop AM5 platform. Announced at CES 2026, these processors feature up to 12 Zen 5 CPU cores and 16 RDNA 3.5 iGPU cores. Crucially, the integrated XDNA 2 NPU delivers up to 60 TOPS of local AI performance, making them the first socketed desktop chips to meet the 40 TOPS requirement for Microsoft Copilot+ certification. This strategic move allows AMD to lead the transition of local AI processing from laptops to high-performance desktop and enterprise environments. The company claims significant efficiency gains, including up to 1.7x faster content creation and 1.3x better multitasking compared to competing platforms. Desktop availability is expected in the first half of 2026, positioning AMD to capture early demand for AI-integrated hardware in the broader consumer and commercial PC markets.
