Amazon's Project Kuiper is preparing for increased satellite launch frequency with a significant inventory of flight-ready satellites and new infrastructure ready to support global connectivity.

Context

As of March 2024, Amazon is rapidly scaling its orbital infrastructure under the rebranded Amazon Leo program (formerly Project Kuiper). With hundreds of satellites now flight-ready, the company is utilizing its $140 million payload processing facility in Florida to support a high-cadence launch schedule. Following successful operational missions in 2025 using SpaceX and ULA vehicles, Amazon currently has over 129 satellites in orbit and aims to exceed 200 by year-end. This expansion is critical to meeting a strict FCC license deadline requiring 50% of the 3,232-satellite constellation to be operational by July 30, 2026. To mitigate previous delays from new rocket development, Amazon has secured over 90 launches across multiple providers. The platform, powered by the custom Prometheus SoC, is scheduled to begin delivering broadband services in five countries by the end of March 2026, targeting the multi-billion dollar satellite internet market.
