Microchip Technology is expanding its smart embedded video ecosystem based on FPGA technology to support AI-driven imaging applications.
Context
Microchip Technology expanded its PolarFire FPGA smart embedded video ecosystem on January 19, 2026, to address the increasing demand for high-bandwidth, low-power connectivity in edge AI applications. The update adds new SDI IP cores and a unique quad CoaXPress bridge kit, making Microchip the first FPGA provider to offer an integrated solution that bridges sensors directly to video interfaces without needing third-party components.
The ecosystem now supports high-resolution 4K and 8K video formats with data rates up to 12.5 Gbps per lane. This rollout is critical for developers in medical diagnostics and industrial robotics who require energy-efficient, fanless designs. The timing coincides with a broader recovery in the semiconductor sector, as Microchip recently updated its Q3 fiscal 2026 guidance to projected net sales of $1,185 million, reflecting a strengthening backlog and increased adoption of its specialized AI and imaging stacks.
