A report from internal sources at ASML suggests that the company has promoted a significant number of specialists from its Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) lithography division into leadership and management roles over recent years.

Context

As of March 20, 2026, ASML is undergoing a significant leadership transition to prioritize engineering expertise amid a broader organizational streamlining. The company recently appointed Marco Pieters, a 25-year veteran and former Executive Vice President of EUV and Applications, as its new Chief Technology Officer. Pieters is slated to join the Board of Management following the Annual General Meeting on April 22, 2026. This move follows the earlier elevation of Christophe Fouquet to CEO, who himself led the EUV business line for several years, signaling a strategic shift toward internal technical specialization at the highest management levels. This leadership focus coincides with ASML's efforts to simplify its matrix structure and accelerate the roadmap for High NA EUV (0.55 NA) systems, which are critical for 2 nm logic and advanced DRAM nodes. While the company is currently implementing a net reduction of approximately 1,700 positions to optimize its Technology and IT sectors, it continues to aggressively hire in Manufacturing and Customer Support. These structural changes are designed to support the mass-market adoption of next-generation lithography tools expected between 2025 and 2027.
