Context

In a historic realignment of the semiconductor landscape, NVIDIA and Intel have entered a multi-generational partnership to co-develop x86 processors featuring integrated NVIDIA technologies. This collaboration involves NVIDIA investing $5 billion in Intel common stock, representing a roughly 4–5% stake. For the enterprise market, Intel will manufacture custom x86 CPUs featuring NVLink integration for use in NVIDIA's AI infrastructure. On the consumer side, the companies are developing x86 system-on-chips (SoCs) that integrate RTX GPU chiplets using Intel's advanced packaging technologies like Foveros and EMIB. This alliance, first announced in late 2025, marks a strategic shift for both firms as they face intensifying competition from AMD and ARM-based architectures. While NVIDIA continues to support its ARM-based Grace and Vera CPUs, this deal provides a critical hedge by embedding its AI stack into the vast x86 ecosystem. For Intel, the partnership provides a massive capital injection and a high-profile validation of its 18A and 14A manufacturing nodes.
