Fujifilm is constructing a new building in Shizuoka Prefecture dedicated to the production and development of semiconductor materials. President Goto commented that this expansion will support the company's overall growth.

Context

In a significant move to bolster its position in the semiconductor supply chain, Fujifilm has completed a new ¥13 billion development and evaluation facility for advanced materials at its Shizuoka factory in Japan. Operations at the new building commenced in November 2025. The site is designed to accelerate the creation and quality control of materials for next-generation semiconductors, directly targeting the rapidly growing demand from AI data centers, 5G, and IoT applications. This investment is a critical piece of Fujifilm's broader strategic pivot into the electronics sector. The company's semiconductor materials business has already expanded 1.7 times from FY2021 to FY2024, becoming a core growth engine. The new facility is part of an additional investment of ¥100 billion or more planned for FY2025-2026, which follows a ¥100 billion outlay in the preceding years. This aggressive spending underscores the company's commitment to capturing a larger share of the high-value semiconductor materials market.
