Samsung Executive to Meet Micron CEO at CES 2026 Over Galaxy S26 DRAM Supply Issues
Thursday, December 11, 2025 at 08:22 AM
Samsung Electronics' DX Division head, TM Roh, is reportedly scheduled for a surprise meeting with Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra at CES 2026 to urgently discuss LPDDR5X mobile DRAM supply for the Galaxy S26 series amidst surging prices and unfinalized contracts. The report also claims that Samsung's internal Exynos 2600 mass production volume has been reduced from an initial plan of 20,000 to 16,000 wafers per month.
Context
Samsung Electronics' TM Roh, President and Head of the DX Division, is scheduled to meet Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra at CES 2026 on January 6 to address critical LPDDR5X mobile DRAM supply issues for the upcoming Galaxy S26 series. This urgent meeting underscores significant challenges for Samsung's MX (Mobile eXperience) Division due to soaring memory costs. LPDDR5X prices have more than doubled, jumping from approximately $33 in January to around $70 by late November, forcing a shift from annual to quarterly supply contracts.
The discussions are crucial for securing sufficient LPDDR5X volumes for the Galaxy S26, especially as Micron has become a key supplier, having exclusively provided DRAM for the initial Galaxy S25 series. This price surge is exacerbated by increased costs for mobile application processors, particularly Qualcomm's Snapdragon, and lower-than-expected adoption of Samsung's internal Exynos 2600 chipset.
This situation highlights intense pressure on Samsung's profitability and could have implications for the Galaxy S26 launch and pricing strategies.
