CXMT holds 10% of Chinese server DRAM market with growth projected for 2025

CXMT currently holds a 10% market share in the Chinese server DRAM market for 2024, with expectations to reach 30% by 2025. Additionally, China represents 15-20% of current global HBM demand.
Context
ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) is reportedly phasing out DDR4 production for server and PC use by mid-2026, shifting its focus to DDR5 and High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM). This strategic pivot, potentially influenced by policy-driven re-prioritization and rapid capacity growth, is expected to significantly impact the DRAM market.
The anticipated withdrawal has already led to notable price increases. Nanya-branded 8Gb DDR4 chips in China have reportedly doubled in price to US$2.50. Furthermore, Samsung has reportedly raised server memory prices by up to 60%, with CXMT also having ended most of its DDR4 production. This market shift suggests potential oversupply risks for next-gen DRAM while creating upward pressure on existing DDR4 stock.
