MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai noted that the scale of investment in AI data centers significantly exceeds that of the internet and mobile revolutions. Additionally, he mentioned that MediaTek engineers are currently integrating Nvidia's corporate culture as the two companies collaborate.
Context
MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai recently stated that investment in AI data centers is "an order of magnitude higher" than the Internet or Mobile eras, expressing surprise at the unprecedented strength of the current trend. Speaking on the ‘A Bit Personal’ podcast, Tsai emphasized that the scale of capital expenditure required for AI infrastructure dwarfs previous technology cycles. This shift coincides with a deepening partnership between MediaTek and Nvidia, where MediaTek engineers are reportedly adopting Nvidia’s corporate culture to better align their development of custom AI silicon and automotive platforms.
This strategic alignment is evidenced by MediaTek's 2025-2026 expansion into the data center market, including the adoption of Nvidia’s NVLink Fusion technology and a $90 million investment in silicon photonics startup Ayar Labs. By integrating Nvidia's Blackwell GPUs into its Dimensity Auto platforms and pursuing custom ASIC designs for hyperscalers, MediaTek is positioning itself to capture a significant share of the cloud-scale AI workload market. The company’s 2025 revenue grew 12.3% to NT$596 billion, reflecting the early financial impacts of this aggressive pivot toward high-performance AI infrastructure.
