Daido Steel has developed and launched a new infrared point light source LED designed for the miniaturization of industrial robots. The new LED features an emission window with a diameter of 35μm and is capable of high-temperature operation.

Context

On November 28, 2025, Daido Steel announced the development of the MED8P76A infrared point-source LED, featuring an ultra-small emitting window diameter of φ35μm and high-temperature operation up to 125°C. This innovation is crucial for the miniaturization of industrial robots, enabling higher-resolution optical encoders and reliable performance in hot, dense motor/encoder assemblies. Sample orders for the new LED will commence in December 2025. The device demonstrates stable operation for 1,000 hours in a 125°C environment, with a maximum rated current of 35mA (or 18mA at 125°C). This robust performance makes it ideal for optical encoders and photoelectric sensors used in servo motors for industrial and collaborative robots, as well as machine tools and semiconductor manufacturing equipment, addressing critical needs in factory automation and semiconductor production.
